Renewable Energy: A New Principle of Connected Self-Suffi ciency
Keywords:

Spain has undergone a great transformation of the urban-industrial society, nearly two centuries,
after other countries that were pioneers. The fast pace of these changes has allowed the population
to enjoy a standard of living far higher than their parents and ancestors. But it has also caused
damages in the territory and in the environment, in magnitude and nature, different from elsewhere.
At present, our country has been able to take an early position, on the use of renewable energy
sources, designed to replace dependent sources on imported fossil fuels for renewable sources
locally based. It has invested heavily in large plants connected to the power supply networks. It is
a fi rst step, very important, but it is necessary to extend a new principle of self-suffi ciency connected
to the whole energy system and the whole metabolism of the territory.
